Nokia , one of the most recognised smartphone in the world. In olden days almost everyone had Nokia ,Nokia was the company that could do no wrong but eventually did. Lets talk about Nokia’s history , initially Nokia wasn’t a phone company but it was a wood pot mill. The person behind Nokia was Fredric Ida Stem ,he setup his 1st wood pot mill in southern Finland and a few years later he opened his second mill on the bank of Nokian River that gave birth to its name ‘Nokia’. After that Nokia never looked back , it soon expanded in to other industries like rubber, cables, tires, Tvs, boots and more. Nokia wasn’t the real Nokia back then but everything changed in 1960. In 1960 the world was prepared for a Cold War and tensions of the war spread all around the world including Finland ,they were preparing for the worst and Finnish government wanted military research in to radio telephone communications. During that time only one company was able to provide that communication for the government and yes that was Nokia. So in the end Nokia got the contract and they made a civilian car telephone network that spanned the whole country by 1970s.And this was the time Nokia started growing ,after 1985 the company started exporting 50% of its products to foreign countries.
Nokia finally hit their golden age when they hit the USA market by teaming up with Tandy.During that time the concept of mobile phone is futuristic because all of them used wired telephones or land phones. And in 1987 ,Nokia introduced its first ever mobile phone it was called “Mobira Cityman 900”. It made serious headlines back then due to the fact that Mikhail Gorbachev the leader of the Soviet Union at the time was spotted using the phone during press conferences. But it wasn’t a smooth sailing for Nokia and in 1988 to 1989 Nokia was in a financial crisis because it was at this time the Soviet Union collapsed and it caused a major recession in Europe so the demand for Nokia dried out. Because of this Nokia changed their management team ,for that they appointed former Citibank banker Jorma Ollila as CEO in 1992. Since he was a banker ,he had good management skills ,he decided to shut off all of the company’s extra proceeds and focused on the core product that is mobile phone. And gave birth to the Nokia’s golden period the 1990 s ,it was at this period that Nokia truly left everyone in the dust and became the undisputed champions of mobile phone industry.

And it was during 1997 Nokia introduced the Nokia 6110 with the most legendary game in the world ‘The snake’. And Nokia changed their user interface completely with this new phone. By 1998 ,Nokia overtook Motorola to become the number one phone manufacturer in the world. And it was during this year that Nokia decided to test Symbian operating system. In the early 2000s Nokia just had hit after hit with phones such as 5110 in the year 2000 and 1100 in 2003. And 2002 was pretty good year for Nokia as they introduced their Nokia 6650 ,the world’s first 3g phone and 7650 Nokia’s first ever camera phone. And in 2003 Nokia started experimenting too much with their phones, they made a gameboy like phone in 2003 ,meanwhile Motorola introduced a pretty good flip phone which had all the user’s attention. This was start of the Nokia’s downfall and the major blow for the Nokia was in the year 2007 when Steve jobs introduced Apple iPhone ,it had full touch screen, during this time Nokia had N series phones which looked not so impressive to the touchscreen iPhone. After this year google released a touch phone with a brand new os that is Android. Nokia did respond by launching a touchscreen based Xpress music phone and it was a commercial success. By 2008 , iPhones ended up selling like hotcakes. The problem was Nokia was rigid with their os ,they could easily jump over to android ,it will be a short term solution but they didn’t. And in February 2011 ,Stephen Elop and Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer jointly announced a major partnership with Nokia and Microsoft and it adopted Windows phone Os as operating system. But in the end , Nokia ended up selling everything everything Microsoft and windows os was discontinued. That was the end of Nokia.
